Mindful Journey Academy was created in response to a simple but urgent question: What happens when we truly honor childhood?
Mindful Journey Academy is an independent nature-based school offering a Waldorf-inspired education grounded in the teachings of Rudolf Steiner.
We serve children in Kindergarten through 8th grade (ages 5 and up) and are proudly a screen-free school, honoring childhood as a time for imagination, movement, connection, and hands-on learning.
By Marie Hall
Mindful Journey Academy was born from both lived experience and deep listening.
As an educator, homeschool parent, and community builder, I spent years watching children struggle in environments that moved too fast, demanded too much too soon, and left little room for wonder, movement, or emotional safety. I saw bright, capable children lose confidence — not because they couldn't learn, but because the way learning was presented didn't honor who they were.
I dreamed of a place where childhood could unfold naturally — where learning was joyful, meaningful, and deeply connected to the rhythms of life and nature. A place where children could move their bodies, work with their hands, build real skills, and feel truly seen.
Mindful Journey Academy is that place.
Every decision we make — from being screen-free, to learning outdoors, to integrating mindfulness, movement, and real responsibility — is rooted in one guiding question:
What does this child truly need to grow into a confident, compassionate, capable human being?
It is an honor to walk alongside families and children on this journey.

Ready to learn more about our community?
Our curriculum goes beyond academics to nurture creativity, empathy, resilience, and a deep connection to the natural world. At Mindful Journey Academy, we believe education should meet the child where they are — intellectually, emotionally, and developmentally.
Through hands-on experiences, outdoor classrooms, meaningful work, and community-centered rhythms, we cultivate a supportive ecosystem where each child can thrive and develop a lifelong love of learning.
Current educational practices have increasingly transformed classrooms into high-pressure environments, contributing to rising levels of anxiety in children — some as young as five.
Our approach deeply values the formative childhood years and is rooted in an understanding of the psychological and scientific importance of play, movement, creativity, and emotional safety in healthy child development. We integrate mindfulness and emotional skill-building throughout our curriculum, supporting children as they navigate feelings, relationships, and community life with confidence and care.
At Mindful Journey Academy, we respect and value each child's individuality. We hold a neutral stance on identification and focus on nurturing the whole child — head, heart, and hands — allowing students to grow into themselves with confidence and authenticity.

Practical skills
At Mindful Journey Academy, learning doesn't stop at theory — it comes to life through real-world experiences.
One example is The Restoration Barn, our hands-on mechanics and restoration program where students work with real tools, real vehicles, and real responsibility.
Students learn not only how things work — but how to approach challenges with patience, confidence, and problem-solving skills that carry into every area of life.
